  1. The City of Tigard has completed a traffic/speed study of the WSE lower neighborhood (from SW 72nd to the s-curve by 6985 SW Ventura Dr.). The study was done from 2/20 to 2/24/19. The study documents the following:
*Westbound: 1072 trips, 268 trips per day average, 502 (51%) of the total trips were made in excess of the speed limit, 6 trips were made at 36-40 mph (11-15 mph over the limit), 36 trips were made at 31-35 mph (6-10 mph over the limit.
Eastbound: 1361 trips, 670 trips per day average, 691 trips (51%) were made at or above 26 mph, 2 trips were made at 41-45 mph!!! (16-20 mph over the limit), 5 trips were made at 36-40 mph (10-15 mph over the limit), 101 trips were made at 31-35 mph over the limit.

Total: 2433 trips, 608 per day average, 49% of those trips were made in excess of the speed limit

    OBSERVATIONS:
    1. Speeding is a problem in the lower neighborhood
    2. Speeding WESTBOUND is a bigger problem than EASTBOUND. 51% of westbound traffic is in excess of the posted legal speed limit. 11 drivers are significantly driving well in excess of the limit (10-20 mph over the limit).
    3. Speeding EASTBOUND is also a problem with 49% of drivers coming through in excess of the limit.

    COMMENTS:
    1. This is a NEIGHBORHOOD problem that we neighbors need to solve for each others safety.
    2. Those that are coming through at 15-20 mph over the limit have no justifiable reason to do so, in my, opinion. For the sake of the rest of your neighbors, would you please comply with the limit? “Over” the speed limit is over; all who are speeding, whether it is 5 or 20 mph over, are speeding.
    3. The speeding problem endangers the children living in the neighborhood, threatens the property of your neighbors, and makes WSE a less than ideal place to call home. We need to decide, individually, what we are going to do about getting the number of speeders minimized and the safety of OUR neighborhood enhanced.

    Respectfully submitted,
