Stair Project

Neighbors, we are finally giving our stairs a much needed makeover but we need your help!

  • Come for an hour or stay the day. Don’t be scared! Choosing a day below does not commit you to the full day.
  • Bring your water, closed toe shoes, work gloves and any additional tools from the list in the sign up.
  • Outdoor work on a slope- digging, leveling, lifting timbers, and moving gravel. Check out an overview of our plan below.
  • Adults and teens welcome! This tighter construction area is not for kids or pets, but take the opportunity to hang out in Cougar Woods Park with your neighbors!

We’re celebrating with a picnic at Cougar Woods Park on Sunday evening, 9/27. It will be a bring-your-own picnic, but we’ll bring dessert! Please feel free to come even if you weren’t able to work on the stairs to hang out with your neighbors!

(If the form below does not load, please GO HERE to fill it out on Google.)

Together we’re rebuilding 38 timber‑and‑gravel steps along the path, in two flights. No construction experience needed. If you can shovel dirt, hold a level, or scoop gravel, there’s a job for you.

What we’re building
Each step is a simple timber frame: a front board you step up on, two side boards that run back into the slope, all locked to the ground with rebar and bolted at the corners, then filled with gravel to make the tread you walk on.

How it comes together
We build one step at a time, working up the slope. Every step follows the same four moves:
